WEST PALM BEACH, FL – A cyclist lost their life to a fatal collision reported before 10:30 a.m. Thursday along Okeeheelee Park.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office told the Boca Raton Tribune that the deadly bicycle collision took place at the intersection of Forest Hill Boulevard and Eshleman Trail. Deputies said the driver of a 2023 Kia Carnival experienced a medical episode, which caused him to lose control of his vehicle and crash into the cyclist.

The cyclist, 71-year-old Stephen Salansky, became airborne after getting struck by the Kia, and the Kia slammed into a pedestrian traffic crossing signal and then sideswiped a concrete pole.

First responders declared Salansky dead at the scene, and EMS crews rushed the driver, 28-year-old Deosaran Nanan, to Wellington Regional Hospital. There, he is receiving treatment for and recovering from minor injuries.

Deputies said Salansky exhibited no signs of intoxication and will not face any criminal charges at this time.
